Green Pastures: a Gem with Great Fried Chicken
Cuisine: Howard's Bone Suckin Fried Chicken
Green Pastures is a live jazz club that serves food on Wednesday and Sunday. The menu is simple - they serve one meal - sock-rocking, bone-sucking good fried chicken. While Green Pastures has simple surroundings, the fried chicken is first class. The collard greens are authentic, the potatoes hearty and fresh, but it is the fried chicken that makes the plate special - moist inside, crispy outside, we enjoyed both wings and breast. At $8 a plate be sure to get both as the wings are great for sharing. The owner, Howard, has been working here for 76 years since 1934. Howard is 85 and he is easy to find, he'll be the guy with the biggest plate of fried chicken at 6:00, when they start serving. Green Pastures is a unique experience in the Finger Lakes, a true gem; so grab a beer, a plate of chicken and listen to great live jazz music - and be sure to say hello to Howard.
